Several of the FlexchargeTM Charge controllers can be expanded for higher amperage operation. These include the PV7D, PV14, NC25A, and NCHC model controllers. All expanded controllers can be used on Solar, Wind, or any other charging source with an output within the rating range of the kit.

The expansion kits consist of a Charge contactor and if needed, a Divert contactor. All wind, hydro, or other generator / alternator based systems must use a divert circuit to prevent voltage surges and to prevent over speeding of the device.

35NCxx A 35 amp CHARGING expansion kit with attached surge diode, connection wires. For solar only unless used with a DIVERT expansion kit. Available for system voltages of 12, 24, 36, or 48 volts. Please specify the voltage in the model number in place of the xx. For example a 12 volt kit would be 35NC12.

35NOxx A 35 amp DIVERT expansion kit with connection wires. This would be used with a CHARGING kit when the Divert feature is required. Must be ordered in the same voltage as the CHARGING kit. For example a 12 volt kit would be 35NO12.

60NCxx A 60 amp CHARGING expansion kit with attached surge diode, connection wires. For solar only unless used with a DIVERT expansion kit. Available for system voltages of 12, 24, 36, or 48 volts. Please specify the voltage in the model number in place of the xx. For example a 12 volt kit would be 60NC12.

60NOxx A 60 amp DIVERT expansion kit with connection wires. This would be used with a CHARGING kit when the Divert feature is required. Must be ordered in the same voltage as the CHARGING kit. For example a 12 volt kit would be 60NO12.

100NCxx A 60 amp CHARGING expansion kit with attached surge diode, connection wires. For solar only unless used with a DIVERT expansion kit. Available for system voltages of 12, 24, 36, or 48 volts. Please specify the voltage in the model number in place of the xx. For example a 12 volt kit would be 100NC12.

100NOxx A 60 amp DIVERT expansion kit with connection wires. This would be used with a CHARGING kit when the Divert feature is required. Must be ordered in the same voltage as the CHARGING kit. For example a 12 volt kit would be 100NO12.

Refer to the Product Manual for the controller you have for wiring instructions of the above kits.

Using Multiple Kits

For solar systems the charging kits may be used in multiples for even greater capacity or system flexibility For example using 2 100 amps charging kits for your solar power will give you a 200 amp capacity by dividing your solar system into two banks and using one contactor for each bank. You can also use one set of contactors for the wind part of your system and another contactor for the solar power. This lets you keep the wind and solar seperated but still controlled by the same control module.

DO NOT use multiple charge contactors for one larger generator or Alternator system. This will not work because they will not switch at the same time causing one contactor to be substantially overloaded.

Warning: Do not try to use a dry contact relay in place of one of these kits. They will have a short life and can cause voltage spiking problems in the system.

Using the DIVERT kits to configure a very high amperage load controller.

For large system where the amperage of a wind or hydro system is over 100 amps it is possible to use multiple DIVERT contactors with our NC25A controller to create a controller that can divert hundreds of amps. This would automatically send the battery power to large DIVERT loads, preventing the battery from overcharging.
